# Masters degree: Industrial Track

## Non-Thesis option

- Requires a minimum of 36 credit hours, at least 18 of which must be in mathematics.
- There must be a 16 credit hours core of mathematics courses*
selected from the following:
- MATH 609 (Numerical Analysis) or MATH 610 (Numerical Methods in Partial Differential Equations);
- At least four of the following:
- MATH 606 (Probability I);
- MATH 607 (Real Variables I);
- MATH 610 (Numerical Methods in Partial Differential Equations);
- MATH 613 (Graph Theory);
- MATH 615 (Introduction to Classical Analysis);
- MATH 619 (Applied Probability);
- MATH 630 (Combinatorics);
- MATH 639 (Iterative Techniques);
- MATH 641 (Analysis for Applications I);
- MATH 642 (Analysis for Applications II);
- MATH 647 (Mathematical Modeling);
- MATH 651 (Optimization I);
- MATH 652 (Optimization II);
- MATH 658 (Applied Harmonic Analysis);
- MATH 679 (Mathematical Algorithms and their Implementations).

- There must be a minimum of 6 credit hours of mathematics,
statistics, or computer science electives. Suggested outside courses
include:
- CSCE 602 (Object-oriented programming, development and software engineering);
- CSCE 606 (Software Engineering);
- CSCE 608 (Database Systems);
- STAT 608 (Regression Analysis);
- STAT 610 (Theory of Statistics- Distribution Theory);
- STAT 611 (Theory of Statistics- Inference);
- STAT 614 (Probability for Statistics);
- STAT 615 (Stochastic Processes);
- STAT 621 (Advanced Stochastic Processes).

- There must be a minimum of 12 credit hours of electives in areas
outside of the Mathematics Department. Typically these must come from
the areas of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. Suggested
courses include:
- ISEN 613 (Engineering Data Analysis);
- ISEN 614 (Advanced Quality Control);
- ISEN 616 (Design and Analysis of Industrial Experiments);
- ISEN 618 (Stochastic Processes in the Assurance Sciences);
- ISEN 619 (Analysis and Prediction);
- ISEN 622 (Linear Programming);
- ISEN 623 (Non-linear and Dynamic Programming);
- ISEN 624 (Applied Distribution and Queuing Theory);
- ISEN 625 (Simulation Methods and Applications);
- ISEN 626 (Model Building and Applications of Operations Research);
- ISEN 629 (Engineering Optimization);
- ISEN 668 (Integer Programming).

- This leaves 2 of 36 credit hours to be chosen in consultation with the student's advisor. Students are strongly encouraged to utilize the Professional Internship Course, MATH 684, as a math elective. Up to 4 hours of internship can be listed on a non-thesis degree plan. The Graduate Program Office and the campus Career Center will help students indentify suitable internship opportunities.

*Substitutions for core courses may be allowed in special cases but require approval of the Graduate Office.
